The program leads to certificates internationally accredited by GQA, City & Guilds and ACCET. It is designed to provide students with a balanced combination of engineering theory and practical hands-on experience. This will ensure graduates have the required job entry skills to work within the energy sector upon completion.
Each student will complete the Academic and PEO foundation training before entering the Program.
Certificate | Accreditation |
NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (QCF) | GQA |
Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Construction – Mechanical Fitting (QCF) | City & Guilds |
EnergyTech Diploma in Mechanical Technology | TVTC/ACCET |
Upon completing the Mechanical program, the graduates will be able to:
- Verify the weight of load and rig-up, lift and move unbalanced loads of 1 ton or less using statutory rigging and lifting regulations.
- Correctly identify the main parts of a center lathe and state their function, and manufacture components from varied materials within acceptable industry tolerances.
- Correctly identify different gasket materials and be able to manufacture gaskets from those materials. Recognize gland packing, repack a gland box, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to replace sealing devices.
- Correctly identify several types of keys and manufacture a plain key. Identify several types of couplings and remove, inspect, and refit a flanged coupling.
- State the function of bushes and bearings used within rotating machinery, remove, and replace bearings, and maintain associated lubrication systems.
- Identify the main types of valves used in industry and maintain those valves.
- Correctly replace belt and chain drives on transmission systems, adjust fin fan blades on a hub, and overhaul right-angle gearboxes.
- Maintain centrifugal and reciprocating pumps and perform types of alignment, including reverse alignment techniques.
- Overhaul (dismantle, inspect, record data, and reassemble) a reciprocating compressor.
